The USA Pro Cycling Challenge was a multi-day bicycling challenge that took the competitors throughout the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Joyce lived in the Big Thompson Canyon and would often see cyclists challenging themselves up and down the canyon, but the USA Pro Challenge was something special with competitors from all over the world.
Joyce’s home and studio was destroyed along with numerous others along the canyon during the the Big Thompson flood in 2013. Working on and completing this masterpiece helped her cope with the staggering loss and is a poignant encapsulation of the human will to survive and meet the challenge.
